Heartbug Monitoring

HeartBug monitoring records the electrical activity of your heart over a period of up to 28 days.

A HeartBug monitor is a small cardiac monitoring device that records the electrical activity of your heart over a longer period of time. It may be recommended when symptoms are intermittent and are difficult to detect with shorter periods of heart monitoring.

The HeartBug is worn on the chest and connects with an app on your smartphone. It monitors your heart rhythm and can record abnormalities when they occur. You can also make a recording when you experience symptoms such as palpitations or dizziness.

HeartBug monitoring is available at 16 Hutt Street, Adelaide.

How is it done?

The HeartBug monitor is attached to your chest using two ECG electrodes. You will need to bring your smartphone with you to your appointment so that the HeartBug app can be set up.

You will usually wear the monitor for up to 28 days, depending on your cardiologist's recommendation. The monitor should remain attached during the monitoring period, including while sleeping and showering.

What should I do if I experience symptoms?

If you experience symptoms while wearing the HeartBug, such as palpitations or dizziness, you can make a recording using the HeartBug app on your smartphone.

The HeartBug also monitors your heart rhythm and can automatically make recordings when it detects an irregularity.

Can I shower while wearing the HeartBug?

Yes. The HeartBug can be worn while showering. You will be given instructions on caring for the monitor and changing the ECG electrodes during the monitoring period.

You should not use a sauna while wearing the HeartBug monitor.

Can I travel while wearing the HeartBug?

Due to Medicare requirements, you cannot travel overseas during the 28-day monitoring period.

You can travel interstate within Australia while wearing the HeartBug.
