Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS)
A CACS is a computer tomography scan that looks for calcification of the arteries indicating early stage coronary disease and higher risk. A Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS) is a non-invasive imaging test using a CT scanner.
Computer Tomography Coronary Angiogram (CTCA)
A Computer Tomography scan that looks for blockages in the heart arteries caused by soft and calcified plaque.
Coronary Angiogram
A coronary angiogram is an investigation that looks to see if the arteries of the heart are blocked or narrowed. A coronary angiogram is an investigation whereby contrast dye is placed into the coronary arteries of the heart via a catheter, that is usually inserted into the left wrist.
Coronary Stent (PCI)
A coronary stent is a treatment that opens up blocked arteries to allow more blood to flow to the heart muscle. A coronary stent may be performed when a significant coronary artery blockage has been detected by a coronary angiogram.
Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE)
A transoesophageal echocardiogram (TOE) is an ultrasound of the heart that is performed by a cardiologist via the oesophagus. A TOE is similar to an endoscopy except the probe used takes ultrasound pictures of the heart.
